Bank cheques are a convenient way to pay an individual or business. If you have a cheque or savings account you can easily purchase a bank cheque online.

  • You must be registered for Pay Anyone to purchase a bank cheque
  • Your daily limit will apply
  • When you purchase a bank cheque online you will be charged a fee
  • The amount charged will depend on the account you are using and will display when you select your account.

How do I purchase a bank cheque?

To purchase a bank cheque:

  • Go to the Home page, which  is the first page you see when you log on to ANZ Internet Banking.
  • Select your cheque or savings account
  • Select the "Purchase bank cheque" link from the Account actions and follow the steps below.

Step 1 - Select the account to make your purchase from

The account you selected on the previous page will display here.

  • You can select another valid account using the "From" drop down list.

Step 2 - Enter the payment details

  • Payee name: enter the name of the person or business to receive the bank cheque.
  • Amount: enter the amount you wish to transfer, using a decimal point, if applicable.
  • Bank cheque fee: your fee will display here automatically.
  • Total transaction cost: the bank cheque plus the fee - this will be automatically calculated when you proceed to the next step. Please note that your daily limit will apply.
  • Payment description: fill in a brief description to help the payee identify you.

Step 3 - Enter the required address

  • Delivery address: fill in the address you would like the cheque to be delivered to.
    • You can provide your own address if you wish to receive the cheque and deliver it in person.
    • You may choose to have the cheque delivered directly to the payee. Make sure the details are correct.
  • Your address: enter your name as you would like it to appear on the remittance advice.
    • Enter the address details of where you would like the cheque returned to in the event that it is undeliverable to the payee.
  • Select "Continue".

Step 4 - Review request

Review all your information to ensure it is correct. If any details are incorrect the cheque may be unsuccessful or may be sent to the unintended recipient.

  • If you notice mistakes select "Back" and repeat steps 1-4.

Step 5 - Confirm your purchase

  • When you are happy with the information entered select "Confirm".
  • ANZ Internet Banking for Business Operators will need to select the "Request authorisation" button and skip to step 7.

Please note for ANZ Internet Banking for Business customers the transfer must be authorised within the authorisation period as specified at registration or the order will expire and you will need to resubmit your request.

Step 6 - Read and accept the terms and conditions (if applicable)

  • Acknowledge your acceptance of the terms and conditions by select "I Accept".

Step 7 - View lodgement receipt

  • Your lodgement receipt is displayed to confirm that your transaction has been successfully submitted for processing.
  • This does not mean the transaction will be processed successfully as that is dependent on the details you have entered being accurate.
  • Please make a note of the receipt number and lodgement number for your own records.
  • For ANZ Internet Banking for Business customers this receipt confirms your transfer has been lodged for authorisation.

How to print your receipt

To print your receipt, select on the "Print" icon in the top right corner.

  • A print-friendly version of the page will display. Select on "Print" at the top of the page to print the page.
  • If there is no print icon in the top right corner please use your own browser's print function (Control + P).

Important notes

  • It is your responsibility to ensure that the details provided are correct or the processing of your bank cheque may be unsuccessful or may be sent to an unintended recipient. 
  • We do not check that the payee details provided by you are correct.
  • You cannot delete or cancel a request once you have select on "Submit" on the authorisation/confirmation page.

Your daily Pay Anyone limit applies for bank cheques.

  • If you have to request a bank cheque for higher amount, we recommend you visit an ANZ branch or request via ANZ Internet Banking in a number of days keeping your daily bank cheque amount within your daily Pay Anyone limit.

Yes. The following fees apply:

  • Request made at an ANZ branch: $10.00
  • Request made through ANZ Internet Banking for personal accounts: $7.50
  • Request made through Internet Banking for business accounts: $5.00

Yes. You can request the bank cheque to be delivered to payee directly by providing the payee's detail under the delivery address.

  • We will then deliver the cheque to payee via post anywhere within Australia.
  • You need to ensure that all details are correct otherwise the cheque may be undeliverable.

To assist the payee in identifying what the payment is for and who it's from, your bank cheque will also have an attached remittance advice.

  • This will contain all payment information plus any details you wish to provide to the payee to describe your payment.

To request an urgent stop payment on a lost or stolen bank cheque or to cancel a bank cheque you have purchased via ANZ Internet Banking, please contact ANZ Internet Banking team on 13 33 50 (International callers: +61 3 9683 8833) 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Bank cheques purchased via ANZ Internet Banking cannot be stopped at an ANZ branch.

  • You must contact the ANZ Internet Banking team on 13 33 50 (International callers: +61 3 9683 8833) 24 hours a day, seven days a week to place a stop on online bank cheques.
