What happens next

Below is a guide to what Solicitors can generally expect once we’ve been notified that they will be acting on behalf of a deceased customer’s Estate.

  • We confirm what documents we need and next steps, which may include arranging to place a stop on certain accounts held in the name of the deceased and providing account information to you.
  • You provide certified copies of the documents we’ve requested, and any other information we have asked for including the completed Estate Funds Release and Indemnity Form (PDF).
  • Depending on the information that’s shared, we may need to ask for further information or documents before closing accounts or releasing funds.

Helpful information

As the Authorised Estate Representative acting on behalf of a deceased person’s Estate, please note that:

  • ANZ will generally require Grant of Probate (Probate) where there is a Will, and the value of the Estate (balance of solely held accounts with us) is $100,000 or more.
  • In the event there is no Will, ANZ requires Letters of Administration where Estate funds held are $100,000 or more.
  • We will accept estate related documents such as Death Certificates, wills, Probate, Letters of Administration via email. Individual identification documents can be emailed but still need to be posted to us at ANZ Bereavement Services, PO Box 585, Collins Street West, Victoria 8007
  • ANZ generally provides information about jointly held accounts directly to the surviving account holder
  • You should let us know immediately if you think there may have been any unauthorised activity on the account.
