Privacy statement
This is the Privacy Collection Notice that applies to your use of ANZ Plus (via web or app). It covers your use of ANZ Plus products (like deposit and loan accounts) and services (like interacting with Coaches or attending an ANZ Plus Coaching Lab). It does not cover other ANZ products and services.
Your personal information is being collected by us! We’re Australia and New Zealand Banking Group Limited (ABN 11 005 357 522) Australian Financial Services Licence Number 234527.
This document is important. You should read it.
Types of information we collect
The personal information we collect about you will depend on the ANZ Plus products and services you use or apply for.
The information we collect may include:
Personal details and identification information
This includes information like name, contact details, tax file number (if provided), identity documents and other details of your personal circumstances (e.g., citizenship, occupation, tax residency, relationship status and dependents).
Financial information
This includes information like:
- details of transactions or payments you make or receive using our products and services
- information you provide to us about your financial goals, financial status, debts and credit limits, assets, income and expenses
- information about your financial goals and priorities based on your use of ANZ Plus and
- information from you or other parts of ANZ about existing products you have with ANZ or other institutions.
Information regarding how you use ANZ Plus
This includes information like:
- details you provide regarding your experiences using our products and services (including on social media, via an app store, in-store or in our ANZ Plus Coaching Labs)
- technical details about the mobile phone or other device you use to access our websites and ANZ Plus (via web or app), such as how you connect, your IP address, a list of apps on your device (Android only), whether you are on a phone call or screen sharing, and (if you allow us in your device settings) your location based on location data
- information about how you interact with ANZ Plus (including when you open or read messages or links we send you by email, SMS or push notification) and the ANZ Plus features you use
- any other data points you grant us permission to collect from your device and
- technical details about how you use our websites (e.g., information from your browser or device (or technologies associated with your browser or device such as cookies or pixels), server information, the date and time of visit and the performance of marketing efforts).
Sensitive information
We generally won’t ask you to give us any sensitive information (like information about your health, religion, political views or sexual orientation). However, we do collect information about you like:
- behavioural details about your use of ANZ Plus (such as how you type, click, scroll and swipe) and
- selfie images or a recording of your voice.
We may use this information to create biometric templates or prints, which are digital representations of you.
We collect, use and disclose biometric information for things like confirming your identity (for e.g., when you're signing up to ANZ Plus, when you're using ANZ Plus or are on a call with us), and to help prevent fraud and other related purposes.
We may also collect, use and disclose other sensitive information you provide to us (such as if you tell us about a health problem you're experiencing when making a hardship claim) or that we're required to collect by law.
Information about other people
You may also provide us with information about other people (for example, if you have a joint account or loan, or authorised user on your account – see "Joint products" below). Before doing so, you should have their permission and inform them of this privacy collection notice.
Information required by law
We're required by some laws to collect some types of information from you – like anti-money laundering laws, financial services laws, superannuation laws and taxation laws. More details can be found in our Privacy Policy at www.anz.com.au/privacy/centre/policy.
We may also collect other types of information set out in our Privacy Policy on the ANZ Privacy Website.
How we collect your information
We collect general information about you directly from you, like when you use in-app messaging or complete a form on our website. We also collect some information automatically, like your device’s IP address and location. We may also collect information about you from other parts of ANZ, including other companies in the ANZ group, (for e.g., if you're already an ANZ customer) and via analytics for the purposes of generating insights about our customers in order to provide better service.
Sometimes, we collect your information from third parties, such as
- our service providers, including those who interact with you on our behalf (for e.g. when you answer a survey) or who help us identify and respond to any actual or suspected security risks, fraud, unlawful activity or misconduct
- government agencies and credit reporting bodies
- other financial institutions, such as when we process a payment that you receive
- document issuers, official record holders and other third party sources (for e.g. superannuation and payroll data sources) for the purposes of identity verification and
- only with your consent, data holders and other financial institutions under the 'Open Banking' consumer data right regime.
If you have already provided certain information (like when you joined ANZ Plus for the first time), we may ask you to confirm that previously provided information is still accurate when you apply for a new product or service.
Why we collect, use and disclose your information
We collect, use and disclose your information to:
- confirm your identity and conduct ongoing customer due diligence, including to check the security of your mobile phone or other device
- consider your application for a product or service
- provide ANZ Plus and other products and services to you, including to set up and manage PayID, implement single sign-on with any third-party products and services you access via ANZ Plus, and give you updates on your progress towards your savings or other goals as well as predicted expenses and repayments
- communicate with you about products and services
- help us manage your ANZ Plus products and ANZ Plus more generally, including for product and system development and testing, data analytics, training and market research
- identify and respond to any suspected or actual security risks, fraud, unlawful activity or misconduct
- collaborate with others who are looking to identify, prevent and respond to fraud, scams and unlawful activity (including by collecting and sharing, via our trusted security service providers, certain information such as alerts)
- conduct surveys, promotions or competitions which we or our partners may run from time to time
- work out what other products or services may be of interest to you, tell you about them and arrange for third parties to advertise our products and services to you on our behalf and
- to consider your feedback or respond to complaints or claims, including where we're required to by law.
We also collect this personal information for the other purposes set out in our Privacy Policy on the ANZ Privacy Website.
If we (or our partners) tell you about products or services and you no longer want us to, you’ll be able to change your preferences in the ANZ Plus App.
What happens if you don't give us information we ask for?
If you don't give us information about yourself when we ask, we may not be able to assist you, for e.g.:
- you may not be able to register for ANZ Plus (or another product or service) – for e.g. if we can't conduct a credit assessment on you, we may not be able to approve you for a loan or credit card
- if you don't provide us with your tax file number, we may need to withhold tax from any interest you earn at the highest marginal rate
- we may not be able to personalise our website and our communications with you or
- you may not be able to use some ANZ Plus features.
We can share your info with others
We may share your information with:
- other parts of ANZ, including other entities in the ANZ group (like if we refer you to another part of ANZ) and their representatives, who may use this information for purposes as set out in this privacy collection notice
- our service providers that are involved in helping us perform our functions and activities or promote our products and services, including those who help us with IT services, identity verification (like document issuers and third-party sources for e.g. superannuation and payroll data sources) and to identify and respond to security risks, fraud, unlawful activity and misconduct
- those we collaborate with to identify, prevent and respond to fraud, scams and unlawful activity
- any provider of third-party products and services that you have chosen to access via ANZ Plus
- other banks, financial institutions, credit providers and payment system participants, including BPAY, whose privacy policy is available at www.bpay.com.au/privacy
- only with your consent, accredited data recipients under the 'Open Banking' consumer data right regime that you ask us to share your information with
- regulatory bodies, government agencies, law enforcement bodies, courts, tribunals and complaints handling bodies
- if ANZ transfers its rights to another party, that third party
- if ANZ sells, transfers or merges part of its business or assets (including its products or services), relevant parties involved in that transaction
- others we're authorised or required by law or court or tribunal order to disclose information to
- in the case of joint accounts or other joint products, the other person – see more details on this under "Joint products" below or
- someone you have authorised to act on your behalf – like a financial adviser, lawyer, accountant or holder of a power of attorney from you, or an executor, guardian, administrator or trustee in bankruptcy.
Some of these recipients may be located overseas or may store your information outside of Australia. For details about the location of these recipients, see our Privacy Policy on the ANZ Privacy Website.
Joint products
Applying for a joint product
The additional details in this section relate exclusively to applicants and customers of joint products like joint accounts, loans or credit cards.
If you're applying for a loan or other product with another person, we may:
- ask for the mobile phone number of the second applicant to link the applications. If you are the second applicant, we will collect your mobile number from the first applicant to link their application with yours to form a joint application and
- collect, use, and disclose information about the second applicant while considering your joint application.
Important: if you do not provide information about the second applicant when we ask, we may not be able to link them to your application or include them as a joint applicant. Before doing so, you should have their permission and inform them of this privacy collection notice.
Information shared with the second person
When you hold an account, loan or other credit product with another person, or are applying for an account, loan or other credit product with another person, some of your personal information (which we directly collect from you or via third parties) will also be visible to the second person, including your full name and the details of the joint account or facility.
Depending on the product, the following may also be visible to the second person:
- address details
- details of any offset accounts and the availability of any offset benefits
- details of your personal accounts with ANZ and with any other banks or other financial institutions. Depending on the source of this information, the second person may be able to see whether the account is jointly or solely held and the product type, and the BSB number of the account and either the last four digits of the account number or the full account number
- the account balance, the credit limit or overdraft limit (if applicable), details of any other savings account that you have provided to us, including whether it is jointly or solely held, the institution, account balance and the savings type
- details of any other accounts or liabilities we receive as a result of conducting any credit checks and
- if you have a different daily withdrawal limit to the other joint account holder (because you hold other accounts with us).
Additional info for ANZ Plus credit product applicants and customers
The additional details in this section relate exclusively to applicants and customers for ANZ Plus loans and other credit products, such as credit cards.
Credit reporting
We may disclose your personal information to credit reporting bodies to request a credit report and other details about you. When these credit reporting bodies respond to our request, we collect your credit information and credit eligibility information from them.
We use and disclose personal information, credit information and credit eligibility information about you to:
- assess your creditworthiness (including to create our own internal assessments) and
- to consider your application for a loan or other credit product, such as a credit card.
If you have a loan or other credit product with us, we may also share your personal and credit information with the credit reporting bodies we work with, including details about your credit liabilities, repayments, and defaults.

- what information we disclose to credit reporting bodies and why
- the credit reporting bodies that we deal with and how to contact them and
- how you can exercise your rights (including if you have been a victim of fraud, if you want to access or correct your credit information or how to make a complaint).

How we retain and delete your personal information
We may retain your information until we no longer need it for any of our permitted activities or to fulfil our legal obligations, including identification and prevention of fraud.
Sometimes we have obligations to retain certain information for a period of time even if you no longer have any product or services with ANZ Plus (for e.g. transaction data, or data which is the subject of a dispute or enquiry).
However, we also have obligations to take reasonable steps to destroy or de-identify information when we no longer need it, nor have any obligation or permission to retain it.

What some words mean
We use some words from the ANZ Plus Home Loan T&Cs in this document, as well as from the ANZ Plus Deposit Account T&Cs – like ANZ Plus App, BPay and Privacy Policy. Those words have the same meaning in this document too. You can get a copy of these T&Cs on the ANZ Plus Website.
ANZ Plus Website is the ‘ANZ Plus’ part of our website, www.anz.com, or other website we tell you.

Credit Reporting Collection Notice means the section of the ANZ Privacy Website titled 'Credit Reporting'.
