We’re focused on helping customers improve their financial wellbeing – including those that may wish to take control of their spending with gambling or gaming merchants through a block. If you’re worried about your gambling, read on to find out where to get help.
If you’d like more control over the types of transactions your eligible card can make, you can use the ANZ App to apply a gambling block on your eligible card. Once turned on, you won’t be able to make Gambling Transactionsdisclaimer using your digital wallet or physical card – whether the transaction is online, over the phone or in person.
To help minimise potential harm from gambling when you’re using a personal credit card, we’ve changed the way we treat transactions which we identify as being for gambling or gaming purposes. The changes prevent you from using your credit card for these sorts of transactions when you’re getting close to your credit limit.
Transactions that we identify as being for a gambling or gaming purpose will be declined if you’ve used 85% or more of your credit limit, or if the transaction would take your balance to 85% or more of your credit limit if it was processed.

We all need a little help every now and again. You may benefit from additional support like financial counselling, help with your job, or having someone to speak with about your relationships.
If you have the gambling block on, you'll need to request for it to be removed in the ANZ App first. Once 48 hours has passed, you'll be able to return to the app to remove the block entirely. Check out the how to video here to see how.
No worries! You'll still be able to receive deposits, winnings and refunds if you've used the ANZ App to turn on gambling block for the card.
Only the cardholder can apply a gambling block to their card and the block only applies to that card, not to any other linked cards. Primary cardholders can't apply blocks on behalf of a secondary cardholder.
The gambling block isn't permanent. You can request to turn it off using the ANZ App, and after waiting 48 hours, you'll be able to return to the app to switch it off entirely. Using a gambling block in the ANZ App won't impact your credit rating.
At the moment, gambling block is only available in the ANZ App.
This could be for a couple of reasons. Firstly, check that you are on Version 4.32 of the ANZ App or above. Click here to find out how to update. Secondly, your card may not be eligible for the gambling block. Finally, there may be a different block on your card. If that's the case, you'll need to give us a call by tapping Support in the ANZ App, then tapping Call Us. Your call will go straight through with your identity already confirmed.
Direct debits that are linked to your BSB and account number won't be impacted by the gambling block. If you have gambling direct debits that use your card number instead, they will be declined because of the gambling block.
You'll be responsible for your transactions if you've participated by making, or attempting to make, a gambling transaction while a gambling block is applied. You won't be successful in raising a dispute in this case.
