ANZ donates AUD$50,000 towards Tonga rebuild

2022-01-17 14:28

ANZ today announced it would donate AUD50,000 to the Red Cross, to support Tonga’s rebuild, following the tsunami and underwater volcano eruption which caused damage to buildings and homes.

ANZ Regional Executive Pacific, Tessa Price, said: “The major challenges right now are clean water supply and communication, with many people remaining completely cut off from concerned family members abroad.

“As the immediate impacts of the tsunami and volcano eruption subside, and the recovery process begins, we want to encourage our customers to contact ANZ when they’re ready so we can support them.

“Thankfully, our team and their families are safe. They have our full support and we know they can move quickly to assist our customers and communities.

“ANZ’s Nuku’alofa branch is open for limited services.

“Tonga is a key part of the ANZ family. Many of our customers and staff have close friends and family in Tonga,” Ms Price said.

ANZ customers in Australia and New Zealand can continue to send money to the Pacific for free using ANZ Internet Banking or ANZ goMoney, to help the flow of funds to family and friends in Tonga.

ANZ is the leading international bank in Tonga, with almost 30 years of local experience.
