ANZ donates USD$50,000 to Red Cross to support Timor-Leste’s flood recovery

2021-04-12 13:49

ANZ today announced a USD$50,000 donation to the Red Cross to support Timor-Leste’s recovery from floods that have caused severe damage in Dili and remote towns and villages.

ANZ Regional Executive Pacific, Tessa Price, said: “The people of Timor-Leste are already suffering from the economic impact of the Covid-19 lockdown. This disaster has come at a particularly difficult time.

“The latest reports show that there are more than 10,000 people in local evacuation centres, so there is concern that Timor-Leste will see a rise in Covid-19 cases, as well as water borne diseases.

ANZ Timor-Leste Head of Commercial, Joao Ferreira, said: “We have been part of the community in Timor-Leste for 20 years and we remain committed to our customers and community here.

“Today’s donation includes a portion from our ANZ Timor-Leste Staff Foundation, made up of staff contributions.

“We’ll continue to monitor the situation on the ground and connect with local authorities to ensure the health and wellbeing of our staff and customers,” Mr Ferreira said.

Timor-Leste Red Cross President, Madalena Hanjan Costa Soares, said: “With ANZ’s support, we can continue our important work assisting with the evacuation response, supporting people in evacuation centres and providing relief as needed.”
