Be supported to re-enter the workforce, and be competitively remunerated for the value you bring, with the ANZ Return to Work Program.
First launched in 2019, ANZ's award winning Return to Work program was the first of its kind in banking in Australia.
In the meantime, we recommend you explore our careers site for opportunities that may be of interest, you can still apply for any of the roles, and set up a profile and register for job alerts for future roles.
ANZ's Return to Work Program is designed for people who have taken a career break, or have been significantly underemployed, and would like support transitioning back into the workforce.
We are interested in people from diverse backgrounds who have taken two years or more off work for whatever reason.
Global opportunities exist across ANZ’s business units and will be confirmed prior to any program launch.
At ANZ, everything we do aligns to our purpose - "to shape a world where people and communities thrive". The ANZ Return to Work Program will set you up to succeed and flourish; giving you the opportunity to thrive and reignite your career.
We know it can be daunting returning to work. So much may have changed that you may be wondering about the relevance of your skills and how your flexibility needs can be accommodated. This is where the ANZ Return to Work Program can help.
We want to know how we can make work work for you.
The program is designed to support your transition back into the workforce, with learning, mentoring, and flexible work options available for all roles. As part of the application process, we will get to know about your past work experience, your skills and motivations, as well as the details of what flexibility you would like. We will ask how many and what days you'd like to work, and if there is anything additional you need to ensure your transition back to the workforce is as smooth as possible.
Our ANZ Return to Work Program gives you the opportunity to refresh your skills and experience in a supportive environment with leaders, mentors and colleagues, whilst being competitively remunerated for the value you bring.
You’ll have the added support of colleagues who have been in your shoes. Hear about their experiences here >
We have simplified our recruitment process to give you the opportunity to show your best self, while having fun and getting to know us along the way.
At ANZ we are innovators, strategists, futurists, business leaders, communicators… and much more.
The roles available across ANZ are varied. So, while some roles require specific technical skills including engineering and analytics, we also seek people with generalist skills and experience across many areas including sales, task identification, estimation and planning, operations, marketing, strategy etc.
Ultimately, if you have a growth mindset, adapt to emerging opportunities, enjoy delivering exceptional experiences, and are interested in new business and technology trends, you could be a perfect fit.
Closer to the launch date, you can join our Global virtual marketplace, where you will learn about ANZ, the program, roles available and also hear from our previous ANZ Return to Work colleagues.
We have a number of roles for you to choose from - each requiring different levels of skills and experience.
Ideally you will have at least four years of experience, relating to the skills of the role you are applying for, and an interest or passion for financial services.
a. Unpaid work is relevant - make it work for you. Identify the skills that you have enhanced during your time away from the corporate workplace
Even if you have not been doing paid work, you have still been using all sorts of skills that are relevant to work, including budgeting, organising and time management. You may also have developed skills in your time away that you did not have last time you were in a job. These may be skills gained through raising your family, interacting with government agencies, caring for others, community and volunteer work or hobbies. Write down some of the activities you have been doing, identify the skills you have been using doing these activities and how these can be used in the workplace.
These are called transferrable skills. E.g. Self management, being organised / time management skills, communication skills etc.
Some of the skills that you may think about could be:
b. Identify the skills and experience from your previous employments
Job-specific skills are the ones needed to complete an activity including project management, prioritising tasks, computer programming or record keeping. You may have used these skills in a different industry, but these may also be applicable in the ANZ role. What are the skills that you have developed in your previous roles?
Identify the skills that you think you will need to update and how you think the Return to Work Program could help you to refresh these skills.
ANZ focuses on getting the right person for the job, regardless of age. Make the most out of the experience you have, the work ethic you have developed and your reliability.
Using the information that you have gathered in the first two questions, practice how to market yourself. Record yourself on your phone or computer and listen back to the recording. Take notes as if you were an employer looking to hire you.
a. Why do you think you are the right person for the job?
b. What can you offer, what makes you stand out?
Planning, cooperation, and support from others is important when returning to work. Identify the resources that you already have that can support you and those that you will need to investigate and implement to be able to succeed in a new role.
You may need to set small, easily achievable goals when you first start back at work. As your confidence and knowledge improve, you can revise or build on them.
Think about the hours you will be able to manage and discuss these during the interview process. If successful, you can work with your line manager to assess these and make any changes.
Think about what kinds of support you will need to return to work. What will work best for you to ensure that you can deliver your best in the role? Think about whether you want:
Continue to have conversations with your line manger as you and your support networks become more comfortable with you working.
Most of all,
Take the first step
The ANZ Return to Work Program is here to help you re-ignite your career, but we can only do that if you prepare and tell us what you want and how we can support you to get there.
