In this vein, the unveiling of the Commonwealth Budget for 2017-18 in Australia caused a big stir on Twitter. Below we present what, when and where was creating the most conversation on Twitter for #Budget2017.

WHAT

The biggest term was – surprise! - tax. New levies around Medicare, banks and foreign workers were at the tip of everyone’s fingers. Health and housing issues closely followed.

WHEN

As the Treasurer wrapped up his speech, the #budget2017 hashtag was appearing 420 times per minute – a revealing picture of the impact the social network has had on our political discourse.

Canberra’s biggest night of the year was also its time to shine on Twitter – with the action happening on phones in the capital as big as that seen in Sydney and Melbourne.
