VIDEO: three big themes for capital markets in 2017

Speaking at the ANZ Capital Markets Corporate Debt Conference in March, Jimmy Choi and Paul White told the audience increased access to capital markets was a priority for the industry.

“How do we increase the depth and breadth of the capital markets in Australia?” Choi asked. “How do we give Australian credits more access to outside liquidity?”

White said he had noted a growing demand for new credits and need for diversification among investor clients.

“Investors are looking for new credits, looking to increase their suite of credits in their portfolio and diversification is the key to that,” White said. “Secondly, in a low-yield environment, investors are looking for more duration.”

Alongside an increased interest in 10-year bonds, both men noted the growing investment base in Asia where liquidity is expanding.

“We’re seeing strong demand for Australian credits, they offer diversification, relative value and tenor,” White said.
