Art can be a powerful way to tell a story and share an important message with communities.  As US artist Trevor Paglen says, art is “objects that live in real places, economies, spaces and architecture”.

We agree. ANZ has launched the Inspiring Locals street art project which will see four top Australian street artists bring local heroes with inspiring stories to tell to life on unused city walls. It’s another way ANZ is making a meaningful contribution to the community through the arts as part of its ongoing investment and growth in NSW.

The artists began painting from June 20 on walls in Sydney’s CBD, Parramatta, Haymarket and Bondi Junction. Below is a time-lapse video of the painting of Wiradjuri elder and founder of the Redfern Aboriginal Tent Embassy Jenny Munro. Sydney street artist Matt Adnate spent more than 40 hours creating the work.

Others to feature in the murals are Anglican Minister and professional boxer Father Dave Smith, who has been  painted by Luke Cornish (aka ELK) in Martin Place and anti-bullying and homophobia campaigner Katherine Hudson, who has been  painted by Kaffeine in Bondi. White Ribbon Day ambassador Nathan Hindmarsh has been painted by Stormie Mills in Parramatta.
