LGBTIQ+ inclusion

Building a culture of respect for all people and communities is one of our key organisational values at ANZ.

The support and inclusion of LGBTIQ+ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Gender Diverse, Queer and Asexual people, and people born with an Intersex variation) customers, communities and staff is an important part of that work.

A workplace for everyone

Our goal is to be the bank of choice for LGBTIQ+ employees and customers.

ANZ is proud to be recognised as a leading employer for LGBTIQ+ workplace inclusion.

ANZ Pride

Our success depends on us having an engaged, diverse and inclusive workforce, and employees who deeply understand and connect with their colleagues, our customers and communities across our close to 30 markets.

ANZ is proud to have had an LGBTIQ+ network active since 2007. The aim of ANZ Pride is to be a voice, contact point and support mechanism for both LGBTIQ+ people and allies as well as to increase diversity, inclusion and respect through active engagement of our people and the wider community.

ANZ Pride acts as subject matter experts on policy guidance across the Group, provides internal support and guidance for employees affirming their gender, raises awareness and education of LGBTIQ+ issues and challenges, and has both led and partnered with advocates within key business areas to deliver a number of initiatives.

ANZ Pride achievements:

  • ANZ is one of 235 organisations worldwide to support the UN LGBTI Standards of Conduct for Business.
  • ANZ was the first major bank in Australia to introduce the gender option of non-binary and gender-neutral title of Mx (pronounced “miks”) when applying for retail banking products in the ANZ App, online, over the phone or in person.
  • ANZ employees in our key geographies who are affirming their gender can access six weeks of paid leave, and up to 12 months’ unpaid leave to support them as they undergo any aspect of gender affirmation including social, medical, and legal gender affirmation.
  • ANZ became the first major publicly listed company in Australia and New Zealand to affirm the Darlington Statement in support of the intersex human rights movement.
  • In partnership with Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras, the ANZ Mardi Gras Community Grants program provided funding for a wide range of LGBTIQ+ initiatives including education and training, community development, and creation, arts and culture. In total, $300,000 worth of grants have been provided to community groups across Australia.
  • ANZ staff have access to volunteering opportunities with community groups including Minus18, Thorne Harbour Health, JOYFM, Gay and Lesbian Archives, and NZ AIDS Foundation. ANZ Pride members have volunteered thousands of hours at LGBTIQ+ organisations and charities across Australia and Zealand.

All Welcome Here

As long-standing supporters of the LGBTIQ+ community, diversity, inclusion and respect are part of our DNA at ANZ. In recognition of this, ‘All Welcome Here’ is proudly displayed on all ANZ Australia branches and business centres.

'All Welcome Here’ is our commitment to:

Create safe, respectful, and welcoming environments
We aim to create spaces that are free from discrimination, harassment, or risk of any other emotional or physical harm. LGBTIQ+ people are welcomed into our spaces and treated with the same courtesy, dignity and respect as everyone else.

Provide inclusive services to all customers

Our goal is to provide services that all customers can access and use in a way that meets their needs.

Publicly support and advocate for LGBTIQ+ communities
We speak up on topics that matter to us, both publicly supporting LGBTIQ+ communities and providing platforms to lift up marginalised voices.
